Cannabis found in Reid's home

This could have been another terrible story in one of Labour's worst weeks, but, sadly, it seems that there's no story there at all.

Pre-emptive Peace Actions

I alsways get jumpy when i see the phrase 'pre-emptive', but this time it's actually very sensible. Hopefully by trying to address the inevitable lies and mis-directions produeced by the Bush administration (and Blair over here most likely) in advance, we might actually have a chance of building up enough critical US public opinion to stop what would be a disastrous attack on Iran.

Pre-emptive Peace Actions

Peter Rothberg writes that peace groups are mobilizing to spur Congress to stand up to Bush Administration assertions that all options--including nuclear strikes-- are on the table in its current confrontation with Iran.

Well, there's no doubt what the major story is tonight. Quite where this leaves 'us' i'm not sure. Several questions leap to mind:

Are the Iranians reacting to the stories that have been circulating recently that Bush is considering the nuclear option by effectively stating that Iran now has the capability to hit back with nuclear weaponry (most likely a bomb smuggled into the US).

Did the US know that Iran was this close and started sabre-rattling?

Are the two things co-incidental? I can't believe that. For me the first option is the more likely one, though i have no idea whether Iran has actually enriched the uranium, or whether it does intend it simply for power generation.

Only time will tell i guess. These are interesting times, though also rather worrying.

Iran claims nuclear breakthrough

Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has announced that his country has succeeded in enriching uranium while insisting that Tehran has no plans to produce nuclear weapons.
